History

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is the umbrella organization for all registered Independent Petroleum Products Marketing limited liability companies licensed to lift and operate petrol filling stations in Nigeria. Currently having her corporate headquarters at No.2 Plot 1078, Alfa Wali Street, Opp. Channels TV, Besides Seton American School, Asokoro-Abuja. Federal Capital Territory.

The establishment of the body came into being as a result of the decree promulgated in 1978 by the then military administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo the then Head of States. The decree established the Independent Marketers Scheme aimed at promoting indigenous participation in the Petroleum Downstream Sector. The program was also aimed at entrenching competition in the sector that was hither to dominated by the largely owned foreign major marketing companies.

Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) applied for registration to the Corporate Affairs Commission under the (perpetual succession) Act cap 98 of the laws of Nigeria on February 3rd 1983. The seal of the registration was registration certificate No. 2686 and file No 7844 MIA.
